The Romans Road

Twelve verses from Paul’s letter to the Romans that walk through the gospel step by step: everyone has sinned, sin leads to death, God showed His love in Christ, and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Memorize them and you can explain the good news from a single book of the Bible.

What is the Romans Road?

The Romans Road is a way of explaining salvation with verses from the book of Romans, taken in order like stops along a road. The best-known stops are Romans 3:23 (all have sinned), Romans 6:23 (the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life), Romans 5:8 (Christ died for us while we were still sinners), and Romans 10:9–10 and 10:13 (confess, believe and call on the name of the Lord to be saved). This collection adds verses on the power of the gospel, peace with God and life in Christ.

The 12 Romans Road verses

  1. Romans 1:16

The gospel is the power of God

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.

  2. Romans 3:10–12

    No one is righteous

10As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one. 11There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

  3. Romans 3:23

    All have sinned

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  4. Romans 5:12

Sin entered the world through one man

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

  5. Romans 6:23

The wages of sin and the gift of God

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  6. Romans 5:8

    God demonstrates His love

But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  7. Romans 10:9–10

    Confess and believe

9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.

  8. Romans 10:13

Call on the name of the Lord

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

  9. Romans 5:1

    Peace with God

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

  10. Romans 8:1

    No condemnation

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

  11. Romans 8:38–39

Nothing can separate us from God’s love

38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  12. Romans 12:1–2

A living sacrifice, a renewed mind

1Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
